While the administration of our schools largely falls under the control of the school board and financed by the state, the support from the city can have a tremendous positive effect on our learning institutions.

School resource officers, school crossing guards, as well as adequate police enforcement during school hours near our school properties are all assets provided by the city to aid in assuring a positive, safe learning environment.

Our Charter School is a positive enhancement to the learning opportunities in Coral Springs.

Higher educational opportunities are also essential to Coral Springs. A large percentage of our population is professionals who are in a position to, or are required to, take additional courses for their careers or to further their opportunities in the business world. Providing this opportunity close to that individual’s home makes relocating to Coral Springs even more attractive. Having the learning opportunity close to home reduces travel thus creating greater family time as well as less commuting time which is a positive for the environment. These opportunities can also be utilized by our senior citizen community or retirees from the surrounding communities.

The city sponsors the Parent Education Committee which meets monthly during the school year. This is a tremendous opportunity for the customers of our school system (the parents) to discuss concerns, provide input and network to provide the best educational system available. I have been a regular attendee at these meetings, first while I was the president of the PTO at my children’s school and then continued after my terms to stay informed. This has been a very rewarding and enriching committee to be a part of.

Having been a police officer for 21 years, I learned first hand the importance of a strong education for our youth. An education provides the opportunity for success which is less expensive to the tax payer then that same individual becoming part of the criminal justice system.

The real estate community will also attest to the fact that a strong school system is one of the significant factors considered by prospective home buyers in Coral Springs. A strong demand for home ownership in Coral Springs preserves the value of our real estate.
