FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY

As Coral Springs has demonstrated, sound, private industry business practices can be tailored to be of tremendous value to government.

Having said that, I understand there are significant differences between the two. Private industry’s objective is to secure as much of the consumers money at the smallest cost to the business. My belief is that government’s role is to take the minimal amount of dollars from its customers (the taxpayer) and provide the necessary services consistent with or exceeding private sector standards.

My belief is that the city commission’s responsibility is to assure that the minimal amount of tax is derived from the public. This allows consumers to spend their money and in turn creates a positive economy which generates dollars necessary to run government.

While serving as president of the Arizona State Police union, I worked with large governmental budgets. My agency budget alone was $100,000,000.00. I testified in governmental hearings in support of budgetary items as well as against wasteful spending. It is important that a City Commissioner be familiar with government budgets, budget processes and most important to me, how to identify and eliminate wasteful spending. I believe and put into practice that a governments spending should concentrate on the needs of all its citizens, not the wants of some of its citizens.
